What is the Difference Between Bird Spiking and Wiring?

In order to provide comprehensive and effective pest control against birds, we will need to employ numerous different techniques. This is because each method that we have available provides its own specific benefits, although many people who are uninitiated wonder why we use so many.

In this post, we will explore two techniques in an attempt to show why they are both necessary despite playing quite a similar role in terms of blocking landing birds.

Wiring vs Spiking: Which is More Effective?

The best proofing method is not a black and white situation; there is no supreme technique that is more effective than any other. The proofing product that we use depends on numerous different factors that are specific to your situation.

Wiring vs Spiking: Which is More Effective?

The first thing that you need to consider is what place that needs to be proofed. The dimensions of an area or structure dictate what we can utilise – every method has its own advantages.

Spiking, for example, is ideal for slight surface areas that birds are landing on. The small surface areas make it difficult to apply many kinds of proofing methods, but the plastic bases of spiking strips can be cut and applied to just about anything; even lighting fixtures and ledges.

Wiring, however, is better for larger open spaces. This is because we can protect a wide open area with very little material; we can install repeated lines of stainless-steel posts before running wire in-between each one.

The appearance of each proofing technique is also important, especially in historic buildings or other structures with an aesthetic that has to be preserved. Every method that we use is relatively subtle, and none are eyesores, but some are more discrete than others depending on the situation.

One survey is all it will take for our technicians and sales advisors to develop a bespoke strategy for your individual situation. We will create an approach that is unique to you.

Bird Wiring Explained

Wiring is a form of physical bird control that creates an uneven surface that will force any landing birds to take off again immediately while the durable wire stands strong.

We set up the wire network by first running one or multiple stainless-steel posts in a sequence of lines. This can either be done along the edge of a building, or you can have multiple rows allowing for comprehensive protection of a large area. Durable and robust wire runs through each post to create a network.

Keep in mind that birds are protected under wildlife laws, but the wires will do zero harm to the pest birds. They will not become stuck or caught in the setup; it only discourages them from settling; they will remain unharmed and move on elsewhere.

Bird Spiking Explained

Spiking similarly stops pest birds from landing by creating an area that they find uncomfortable or unnerving. As soon as the metal ‘spikes’ come into contact with the bird, they will become frightened and move somewhere else more suitable.

Keep in mind that the spikes are just blunt metal rods; they are not designed to cause any form of physical farm to birds or any other animal. Spiking is essentially an inaccurate term; they are just rods!

The metal prongs are mounted on UV-stabilised plastic bases that can be cut and bent in order to fit whatever situation they are being applied to.

When we consider pest species, we rarely think of birds. However, they are just as problematic as many more ‘traditional’ pest species such as rodents or insects and often more destructive. Stopping birds from settling at all is more cost-effective than dealing with them repeatedly.

All of our personnel benefit from years of experience as well as extensive targeted training which allows them to perform at the highest standards. Our team will come up with a proofing approach that is specific to you and your requirements.

We deal with all pest species from the smallest sparrow to the largest gull, as well as any other form of pest which is causing issues on your domestic or commercial property. We work within all wildlife protection parameters outlined by the government.
