Wasp Nest Removal Edinburgh

Found a wasp nest in your Edinburgh property. Get rid of it today with Edinburgh Pest Control Co.’s professional wasp nest removal service.

Whilst wasps play a vital role in the ecosystem as pollinators and predators of other insects, wasps can pose serious risks when they nest near homes or businesses.

Their aggressive nature, especially when threatened, makes dealing with a wasp nest a potentially dangerous task that should always be handled by professionals.

Each nest can house thousands of wasps, with their numbers growing rapidly throughout the season. Attempting to remove a nest without the proper expertise or equipment can result in painful stings and even severe allergic reactions.

At Edinburgh Pest Control Co., we utilise advanced techniques to ensure the safe and efficient removal of wasp nests, protecting both your property and your peace of mind.

Our BPCA-certified team understands the unique challenges posed by wasps in urban and rural settings, offering tailored solutions to address infestations of all sizes. Whether it’s a small nest in a garden shed or a large colony in a roof void, you can trust us to handle it effectively and responsibly.

When do wasps appear?

Wasps are highly social insects, and their life cycles tend to stick to a strict seasonal timetable. You can expect to see wasp nests begin to appear around May and continue to be a problem until as late as November.

Identifying a Wasp Nest

Wasp nests are incredibly distinctive due to their paper-like appearance. This look comes from the materials used to build it which consist of chewed wood pulp and their own saliva.

Their living spaces are generally built outside, or indoors in areas with little human activity and easy access to the outside. They will construct them in sheltered areas, such as in wall cavities, lofts and attic, garages, and under eaves.

Locating a Wasp Nest

There are a few giveaways that wasps have taken residence in or around your home, even if you have not seen it directly. Firstly, if you notice a couple of wasps entering into a small hole in an outside wall, then it is relatively certain that you will require our professional service.

Additionally, you may even hear wasps buzzing within the walls of your home. This is a sign that they have built a colony somewhere within your home, and it is crucial you organise a visit from our technicians as soon as possible.

The Danger of Wasps

Unlike many other insect pest species in Edinburgh, wasps are unlikely to do serious harm to your building, and they are unlikely to carry viruses and bacteria into your home.

However, as you have probably experienced in the past, wasps can be vicious creatures with a, particularly potent sting. When wasps infest your property, it can make stepping outside an unpleasant experience, and you will also find many exploring your home looking for food sources.

Moreover, for many people, a wasp’s sting goes beyond a painful reaction. If you are allergic to the venom, you may find that the wound is particularly painful, and it may swell to levels far beyond expectation.

For a minority of people allergic to the substance, the result is much more severe. Some human beings are so allergic that they will quickly enter anaphylactic shock and will need emergency medical intervention in order to prevent lasting injury and even death.

In short, wasps are at best painful and unpleasant, and at worst incredibly dangerous.

DIY Nest Removal

While it is theoretically possible to remove a nest yourself, it is very rarely a good idea. If a nest is disturbed, wasps will aggressively defend their home. Anyone interfering can very quickly find themselves swarmed by the insects which will repeatedly sting in order to scare you off.

Wasps have roles within the nest, and they can have populations of as much as 4000. Scouts at the entrance to the colony will warn others inside that danger is imminent, meaning a few wasps can turn into tens or even hundreds in a short space of time.

Our technicians are well-trained and experienced, with all of the equipment necessary to deal with wasp nests effectively. After just a brief and affordable visit, we will have retrieved the nest from your property and taken it away.

Wasp species in Edinburgh

Common wasps

Common wasps tend to prefer living in man-made structures. They will make their home under eaves, in crevices and wall cavities, and hollow trees. However, they can also be found underground or in bushes.

Their nests tend to be significantly smaller than their other prevalent counterpart, the German wasp. It is virtually impossible for their nests to survive through a Winter due to a critical lack of food supply.

They are tremendously interactive and adaptive, allowing them to survive in a selection of surviving environments; including, and especially, those inhabited by us.

German wasps

German wasps are an invasive species which has flourished in the British environment, likely brought here by travelling humans. They are so successful that they are affecting many species of British wildlife through fierce competition.

This species of wasp prefers to make their nest on the ground, and underneath it, or in shrubs and bushes. However, they can also be found in attics and lofts, away from human activity and protected from the elements.

While many German wasp nests will die out towards the end of the year, bigger nests in sheltered locations will survive and continue to expand the following year. The sooner they are dealt with, the better.

Traps put in place on the same visit

We have a big warehouse to store our products, and we kept finding small holes in the boxes. It turns out mice were trying to get inside, which meant we had to write off a fair amount of stock. We had a visit on the same day and traps put in place on the same visit.
